NOT WITH OUR MONEY, CITIZENS!

Through the “Not with Our Money, Citizens!” organized money withdrawal campaign in partnership with the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO), dozens of faith groups, unions, companies, and individuals have already pledged millions of dollars in assets.

We will act collectively to move our assets out of Citizens Bank accounts in increasing increments unless the bank takes meaningful steps toward ending its deplorable practice of financing ICE detention companies. Pledging to move assets you hold at Citizens Bank adds to the pool of “shared” assets.

More money pledged = more leverage!

How can people learn more?

Join us for a virtual workshop 12:15-1pm EDT on Wednesday, May 27 or Wednesday, June 17 for more information and a Q&A session. RSVP here.

What is an "organized money" campaign?

An organized money campaign is a form of activism where we pool our money in order to exert strategic pressure. We will withdraw assets from our Citizens Bank accounts in increasing increments, should Citizens not respond within explicit timelines. Acting collectively maximizes the impact of our individual decisions.

How does it work?

Instead of closing accounts right away, accountholders make a pledge that specifies the amount they are willing to withdraw. Participants are ready to close their accounts, but wait to act until directed by the campaign's leaders. Accountholders will receive advance notice when they will be asked to move their money as part of the next tranche of funds to be withdrawn from Citizens.

Who can pledge?

Anyone with an account at Citizens can participate in "Not With Our Money, Citizens!": organizations (non-profits, faith-based, unions, businesses), politicians, and individuals.

Who is coordinating this effort?

The De-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition is teaming up with the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO), a coalition of 53 churches, synagogues, mosques, and unions with years of experience using "organized money" to make their voices heard. GBIO started this campaign in February and has already collected nearly $20 million in pledges from member organizations and individuals.

How is accountholder information protected?

We care about your privacy and the security of your information. See the privacy notice on the "Not With Our Money, Citizens!" pledge page for specific information about how pledge data is stored, who can access it, and what it will be used for.

What can you do to help?

Accountholders can join the effort by pledging to move assets. Here are step-by-step instructions for participating.

Everyone can help by working to identify individuals and organizations with Citizens Bank accounts, sharing information about the "Not With Our Money, Citizens!" campaign, and encouraging them to participate!

What if I already closed my Citizens Bank account?

If you already moved money away from Citizens because of the bank's financing of private for-profit ICE detention and prison companies, you can still make sure your efforts are counted in our running tally of the campaign's financial impact on Citizens Bank.
